Yes, Sobha has been laboratory tested for safety by ADSL (incl. link) in the UK. Tests included analysis on any contaminants, bacteria or heavy metails. They also included ‘challenge’ and ‘stability’ analyses. The first is where the cream is abused by rapid heating and cooling under diverse conditions (eg. high humidity) to check for any resulting bacterial growth. The second is where the cream is stored in adverse conditions for an elongated period of time, and then checked for texture and bacterial growth. All tests have passed with flying colors. The cream is also cruelty free and its ingredients are Halal certififed.
In some cases, depending on the person and where on the body, Sobha cream will sting and leave light redness on the skin. However, the redness clears up after about 30 minutes. The reaction is to Papain (papaya extract), the natural ingredient which drives the hair removal process. Similar reactions can be had when chopping ripe papaya fruit. In additions, some individuals are slightly allergic to Sandalwood. As the cream is based on sandalwood oil, a reaction can occur. We strongly advise patch testing the cream first to ensure you are comfortable with your reaction to it.
Sobha is made by Ayuvedic doctors in Sri Lanka, following an ancient recipe. The process involves cutting the skin of green, unripe papaya fruit which allows wax to seep out and drip into a container underneath. This ‘wax’ is then heated, resulting in a dry powder which is essentially Papain extract, the active ingredient of our cream. This enzyme is then mixed with the other ingredients (including soothing agents shatawari and curcuma), using sandalwood oil as the emulsifier.
